Description: The evening started with Samy Moussa's Concerto for trombone and orchestra named "Yericho". Afterwards I learned from an interview of Saraste that Moussa admires Bruckner a lot (great !!!), and indeed you could hear some similarities: on the first movement my thoughts went to Bruckner's Ninth. The last movements of the work sounded very much like film music. I wasn't overjoyed by this piece, but it was a good and interesting experience.

Description: Third Symphony and 1877 version. This second version is Saraste's favourite. He stated in an interview the first to be too bold and wild, and the third version too kind (as Bruckner listened his well-meaning friends and made changes), and the second version is somewhere between. My ear is used to 1888/89 version as I have listened Celibidache's recordings so much. On this concert I thought this 1877 version is not so flowing that this later version (or was it more a matter of a performance), but I have to listen to it multiple times before I can compare these two.
